Fake Flamingo Recordings was conceived in 2011 as a response to the current phenomena of selling an artist's identity rather than their music. A group of veteran label owners, artists, and writers created a framework for the project, culminating in a 2012 launch. The goal is to release a digital single each week, created by an artist working under a pseudonym. As an added bonus, when the bandcamp proceeds reach $1K, a limited edition 12" vinyl record will be pressed and 100 people who actually paid for their downloads will receive the record for free.
The ability for an artist to create new sounds without having to reference their past work has proved to be quite freeing. The music is the product, not the person. We hope that you enjoy the art as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.
