Excerpts from the release now available at Experimedia.net. This latest release from Rutger Zuyderveldt's Machinefabriek project was originally commissioned by the StreetCanvas Festival in the Netherlands. Comprised of intensely dark drone and sound collage, the pieces were continuously looped from small loudspeakers in a public square, an image that conjures a sort of cultural and spatial dissonance that is perfectly fitting for this music. Removed from it's original context, Ontrafelde is still distressing, existential stuff. When heavily treated choir-like vocal samples lurch around in the second track it's both inviting and eerie, and more than a little beguiling when paired with the industrial grit of the closing track. Ontrafelde is pressed on a lathe cut and limited to 100 copies. - Keith Rankin for Experimedia
