*Excerpts from the album. Now available from Experimedia.net.* Two years ago a seemingly seismic shift happened in the Brooklyn-based drone duo Mountains: the introduction of modular synthesizers. The band built a reputation – both live and on record – for being patient musicians of careful construction and detailed edits, heard most convincingly on their Thrill Jockey debut "Choral." Synths seemed to alter all of that as the outfit became preoccupied with featuring electronic forms that spiraled and rippled, seemingly unfettered by human interaction. That sound, like Mountains' "Air Museum," is showcased convincingly on Koen Holtkamp's new LP "Liquid Light Forms." Synths lead Holtkamp's three pieces through myriad different forms, all optimistic and consonant in nature. The three tracks are largely indistinguishable, leading "Liquid Light Forms" into some deep zones, contemplative atmospheres, a hypnotic currents. – Ryan Potts, Experimedia
"Liquid Light Forms is Barge's first release for Koen Holtkamp, whose long-standing work both as half of the duo Moutains and as a solo artist has produced a diverse and rich catalog of electro-acoustic music. The album focuses almost entirely on electronic pieces utilizing predominantly voltage controlled modular synthesizers and sequencers. Liquid Light Forms radiates with pulsating, dense rhythmic patterns that morph and emerge as they compound on themselves. The result is a hypnotic and truly psychedelic listening experience that proves to be one of Koen's most captivating recordings yet. LPs released in an edition of 400 copies."
