Of mixed New Zealand and Japanese descent, Excelle is a multi-disciplinary creative with futurist leanings. A DJ, designer and visual artist, she constructs her vivid, cross-genre DJ sets with the same sensibilities a fashion designer would curate a seasonal range. Having originally emerged from artistically dynamic design school scene of the early 2000s in Wellington, touchstones for her aesthetic include seminal Manga work Akira and the cinematic adaptation of Philip K Dick’s classic Blade Runner. Citing the likes of Krush, Oneman and Hudson Mohawke as inspirations, she has been lucky enough to, over the course of her career, share the turntables with many of her musical icons.
