“A fresh rush of blood in the ageing corpse of music”
There seems to be a little confusion on the distinction between 'art' and 'craft'.
Is DJing something that almost anyone can learn to execute, relatively easily, from a technical standpoint?
Can anyone then translate that into creating a strong emotional response among their audience, or pushing forward a culture?
Some djs are trades people, some are craftsmen, some part-entertainer-part-jukebox and one in every two million people are artists. But it's the artists that are the problem: where is all the dissent, protest, resistance & danger in contemporary pop culture?
...Me? - I have reason, objectivity & spiritual evolution. I don't have faith or illusions. I'm a romantic in every sence but I know that deep down, the idea of freedom is impossible and that information drives behaviour. Most people are motivated by irrational forces driven by unconscious desires; obedient little consumers seduced by a celebrity status that will always be just out of reach...
This thing we're doing, that started out as two guys djing 45s & 12"s in the backroom of a pub, grew into a 'Band of DJs' (James Kenny, DJ Propaganda, Fra, The Chuck Shultz Beatbox), then an alter-ego called the 'Future Boogie Crew'. Then we started a band.
The line up is: Neil Waters (Beats/Vox), James Kenny (Drums), Jagger Murray (Lead Guitar), Franny Watters (Guitar), Damien Carroll (Bass) & Shane Clarke (Acoustic/Bass). Live mp3's are available to download on this page right here right now
