About "Bach to the Future"
I am so delighted to release this first fugue in my collection called "Bach to the Future" which will feature a minimum of 24 fugues (for every major and minor key, similar to the Well-Tempered Clavier series by Bach). The catch is that all the fugue subjects (main theme) will be based on very popular tunes today which would be "future" tunes from Bach's perspective. Ever wonder Bach would write a tune on "The Star-Spangled Banner", "Mr. Softee", or "Gilligan's Island"? Well stick around and find out as I release each of these fugues!
My goal is threefold:
1. Make you smile or laugh!
2. Teach music lovers who are less familiar with fugues, what the "fugue" is all about!
3. Produce an excellent compositional fugue in the style of Bach and other Baroque masters.
Hopefully you'll agree! :-)
All my fugues will be on sale on CD Baby only for $.49 until I publish the last fugue in the collection!
Please take the time to rate and review on iTunes and/or CD Baby if this tickles your funny bone!
And lastly of interest, the cover art is a self-portrait I painted of myself my last year at Columbia College. Funny how I decided to paint myself in a Baroque period costume, long hair, hat, white collar and all! It's perfect to use for this collection! ;-)
Cheers!
EP
Description
This is a fugue for wind quintet composed, recorded and produced by Erik-Peter Mortensen, performed by Eastern Winds under the direction of Marc Cerri, and arranged for wind quintet by Marc Cerri.
As the name implies, this fugue has not 1, not 2, but 3 subjects! The first subject is an original subject by Mr. Mortensen, the second derived from the nursery tune "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and the 3rd from the Christmas Carol "Deck the Halls with Holly"! All 3 subjects weave in and out amongst each other cleverly and smoothly to delight the listener.
Both Eastern Winds and Erik-Peter Mortensen are based in New York City.
