In the summer of 2011 Lee J Malcolm gave us his ‘Folded Spaces’ album, introducing us to his vast musical skills as both a talented musician and dance music producer. Now Lee launches his Terrestrial project with a new album, which is preceded by the ‘Trashcan Riotface Queen EP’ on 8th October.
As Lee explains: “I was clearly writing in two different styles on the first album, to the point where neither could be fully explored if they remained together. I decided I wanted to make an album that wasn't dictated to by the dance floor in particular but was still a head nodder. Something that people would like to listen to on headphones and be transported by it.”
This latest appetiser features two tracks from the forthcoming album - ‘Trashcan Riotface Queen’ and ‘We Just Might’. The former is a sonic experimentation that will still work on lighter dancefloors as well as appealing to the cerebral listener, while the latter is a harmonious beauty, full of cinematic playfulness.
Lee also delivers his Alternate Remix of ‘Trashcan Riotface Queen’, adding a more intricate drumbeat to the spectrum, which creates a deep, percussive and yet uplifting version of the original.
One of Lee’s other musical occupations is performing with experimental rock band, Vessels (on Cuckundoo Records), so ‘We Just Might’ gets the Vessels fervour, giving it an otherworldly feel with gentle guitars and upbeat strings.
Lee J Malcolm’s Terrestrial album is released 5th November on EPM Music.
