Within the last 10 years the hate crimes of people who identify as LGBT have made headlines around the world. In the U.S. the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a 21-year old student at the University of Wyoming; sent shock-waves and ignited outrage in the community. Since then the murders of Angie Zapata in 2008 and Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado in 2009 are a reminder of the homophobia-fueled hate that permeates our society. Everyday LGBT's are subjected to harassment and have been the target of violence.

The stories of these incidents are often told by a news reporter standing in front of a police "do not cross" line, but rarely do we hear a first hand account.
