Pat Benetar. Produced by Ron Dante @ Media Sound Studios (NYC) - the year before the same arrangement was re-recorded for public consumption, due to ...'record biz politics'.

The band on this are Paul Shaffer (keyboards), Elliott Randall (guitars), Allan Schwartzberg (drums) and Neil Jason (bass). Engineered by Harvey Goldberg, This version is a bit more gritty and raw. We had an amazing time making this record.

There was no "final mix" or mastering. Special thanks to Wes Maebe [GHQ Sonic Cuisine] for adding that little extra audio "oomph" for this presentation.

I played with a guy, Larry Jacobe from New York City that was in Pat Benetar's band for a while.

I like the driving piano here. Having played this in a group, the silence is tough to mark.

This was ahead of its time, it sounds like the music that is being put out currently, we need to be able to download it to our music libraries

Very cool. Disappointed there is no guitar solo at the end, though1

I bet the late great percussionist Jimmy Maelen (R.I.P.) sat in on this too. That's his tambourine in there

This takes me somewhere the vanilla version doesn't, though that's ok too. This is what music can be like when not gutted for radio.

This is a fantastic 'discovery' or 'release'. It's fun to listen to how songs are before the interference. :)))) Thanks for posting Elliot.

It's a great take! The stops without another legato guitar make it choppy in spots however it is the original!

Personally I hated the keyboards except for in the bridge but everything else was cool, I was waiting for Elliott to rip it up at the end. none the less it was an energetic take.

@ ChrisCia - that's what makes the world go around. Different folks like different things. All's cool. "Better / Best" is purely subjective. Respectfully.

I am not really getting where this rocks harder or sounds better then the realeased version. the drumming was superior on the released version. for that matter everyones playing was better on the realeased version. cool to hear the song in the demo phase though.

Edgy. Loved it! Love the original too. Just like Italian and Chinese food, I love 'em both. They're just different. Definitely needs to be re-released. Could even go edgier, and still use her original voice track. Thank u for posting!

Great song, but I can't stand the cheesy keyboard in the background--this is not a song that needs keyboard. And if you really want the song to sound "grittier", you'd get rid of the distracting keyboard completely.

cool to hear a work in progress but the keyboard sounds way out of place and really miss the A cappella part showing pats powerful voice.

Shame the released version cut out the climatic ending of her voice.
