E M P is a dubby, subby mix of live electro drums, baritone sax, synth, Moogbone and the raw vocal talents of young Londoner Amy K.
The concept is to be able to bring the live band into a DJ environment when needed. With their own on-stage mixing and in-ear monitoring, the band can go anywhere a DJ can…plug and play live!
Visually, the band collaborate with a fifth member VJ Zac Gray who creates a live mix of moody projections which interact with and light the band.
ElectroMagneticPeople’s sound has evolved from studio to live with converging influences; London’s finest dub/dnb clubs like Fabric and Matter where both Pete Gill and Amy K have spent many nights knee deep in bass - and the hot horny funk and Afro beats of festival bands that Dave Kelly and Pete Gill have jammed over the last 15 years.
Amy K grew up in the south of London immersed in the music of her father Lionel Kisnorbo and the studios of Mo Wax as his trip hop group Psyconauts smashed their way through the 90s. Her vocals are raw and soulful to a rare degree. Amy began recording with her father and Pete Gill in their collaboration, The Invisibles…
Pete Gill and Dave Kelly began their collaboration in the mid 90s with festival street band Honky Trash - which quickly became a hit in Melbourne and Sydney, and went on to tour internationally. More recently, the section have been blowing with French swing-rock band Nimeo on both sides of the globe. This is where Leslie marsh entered the picture… his high-energy playful grooves quickly became a good fit for EMP.
