This is music at the cusp. A moment in Middle Eastern history where dramatic urbanization and a burgeoning youth culture was emerging. Music right before the cassette tape popped off, which would eventually become the single greatest asset of the Iranian Revolution, disseminating the Ayatollah's sermons en masse. It was a volatile period in Middle Eastern History (a period like any other). Radical shifts in popular musical composition had already occurred, beginning with Sayed Darwish in the early 1900s. Here we are introduced to new approaches in music making, specifically instrumentations incorporating amplification and sound synthesis, the harnessing of electricity for musical production. It echoed movements (social and technological) occurring across the globe. Electric guitars, the org (keyboard), and advances in production/distribution would have lasting effects. These songs are some of the first (and freshest) encounters with this newness.
