UK Funky, Future Garage, Tropical Bass, Bass House or Bass Music, whatever you call it, it is clear that in the last couple of years there has been a complete new sound which has been making it rounds through the worldwide underground. Rooting in Dubstep but drawing influences across the board from House, UK Garage as well as Latin American and African rhythms, this new sound has the potential to break down the barriers between genres and their respective crowds.
In Holland one of the first DJ’s to expose the crowd to these beats has been Utrecht native El Maria. After many years as one of the most prolific Drum & Bass DJ’s and promoters in the country, El stepped his game up in 2008. Slowing down his tempo to Dubstep before morphing his sound into what it is now, an energetic hybrid of styles. Showcasing his style with his succesful ‘Fucked Up Dancehall’ mix series, El’s sets are always spot on with a fresh selection and tight mixing.
