A little montage of the sound recordings I made in Berlin 7th-11th September 2011.

I prefer the term Acousmatic Painting for these kinds of tracks. In acousmatic works it's not necessary to recognize the sound source. Although most of the used material is still in its original recognizable form (organ, u-bahn, traffic) other material has been processed and cut up until it becomes just abstract sound.

The most striking soundbites, in this one, are the ones made from the interactive sound sculptutre "Gallery of the Missing" by Via Lewandowsky. It consists of showcases, which visitors cannot look into. They contain acoustic descriptions of missing objects. You can select fragments by walking around with a wireless headset. There was hardly anybody in the museum so I could freely move around and "compose" my own set of soundbites and static.

Some of the other sounds are: Electric doors (0'17"), traffic, a tuning orchestra, church announcement and organ, steps in a greenhouse, pedestrians, a block party and a lot of U-Bahn (I know, I like subways).

You can hear some of my original field recordings on Thijs Geritz .
