Pylon
A pylon is a new typographic term introduced to define the missing areas of a stencil typeface. Ascenders, arms, crossbars, counters, spines, shoulders, tails, stems and spurs: altogether there are over 20 components in the anatomy of type. In this piece the composer was fascinated by the possibility of invariability and brought this invariability to the creation process to a point where, in the supporting sonic canvas; sound, interruption and silence are disembodied to "create" the "letter" which will form the word, the sentence, the paragraph, etc. In a broader level of perception, the "pylons" (the missing areas) of the piece determine part of the structure and will switch it's function with the "body" (stencil typeface) of the piece, the opposite, the negative of it, leaving the listener the option to decide what is a pylon and what is the body, in an ever changing sound environment.
