The affectionately and deservedly named dynamic duo of reverse bass hardstyle Ed E.T & D.T.R have had an outstanding run of tearing up quite possibly every single dance floor worth its salt since their mutual merging of talents in 2006. Quickly becoming the fine purveyors of speaker blasting, dance floor destroying and roof raising, full throttle back to back DJ performances, coming armed with a fully stocked armoury of crowd pleasing weapons, comprising a set choc full of their own high energy productions; the two have become seasoned at taking pride of place high atop the line up of many very well attended events for nearly a decade and show no signs of letting up yet thanks to repeat bookings on a week to week, year on year basis.
Ed's roots hark back to the days of the commercial boom of trance in 1999. Having been enthused by the sounds of big room electronic music, Ed followed this new found inspiration by building a sizeable collection of records of which naturally he would soon need a set of turntables to play them all on. Mixing his way through the back end of the 90's and teaching himself to put together a belter of a set led him to his friends introducing him to the more underground sounds of rave, getting an education through tape packs from Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and Slammin Vinyl.
It was through such a vibrant medium he would focus his interests on hard house, given that much of his collection was now dominated by Lisa Pin-Up, Lisa Lashes and Tidy Boys records, Ed's progression from the bedroom to parties and clubs as a DJ playing out in public in and around his native Wales would see his more public performances focussed on becoming known for mixing hard house and hard trance.
A short while later, Ed visited Bionic to see M-Zone live. His fascination with harder, darker and dirtier sounds had become a focal point for Ed and one that from that one single visit to see Mick live combined with the atmosphere and energy of a well packed Bionic event would inspire Ed to start investing in such sounds himself.
Now practising sets utilising fresh sounding European hardstyle, German hard trance, upfront hardstyle and then some Ed spent months perfecting a high energy mixing style with scratching, effects and lots of little touches to make his newer set of demos stand apart from the rest. It was a move that would secure him a booking at a night named Inner Rhythm playing a peak time slot at Midnight to an absolutely rammed dance floor with the most electric atmosphere he had seen for a long time. So good in fact, that Ed was asked to become a resident, a connection which opened doors all over Wales allowing Ed the opportunity to play at many events with the same sense of outstanding gravitas.
It was also during this period that Ed would turn his hand to another booming scene after being specifically requested by a friend to play UK hardcore. The night, called 'Bazooka', was a blend of hardcore, drum & bass and one or two other styles that gave ample opportunity for Ed to show versatility as a DJ playing UK hardcore, freeform and of course his favourite blend of hardstyle. He would also, as a result of such machinations join the bill and share stages with well reputed artists such as Sy, Dougal, Hixxy, Scott Brown, Breeze, Vibes & Livelee with fantastic feedback on all fronts.
It was shortly after this time of great ascension, that Ed would meet Dave, otherwise known as D.T.R. Meeting by chance after being booked to play an exclusive hardstyle back to back set together at Voodoo's Halloween Party, the two instantly got on and realised that both their tastes and record collections were more similar than they had initially realised. Naturally their first set back to back was nothing short of explosive and the two have never looked back since.
Dave, rather like Ed has been immersed in dance music from childhood. At 8, he had his first stomp to 2 Unlimited's 'No Limit' whilst watching the Chart Show one bright and breezey Saturday morning and has not looked back since. From collecting Dreamscape and Helter Skelter tapes to actually attending Inner Rhythm parties in Pembrokeshire (where Ed was resident) and getting immersed in the sound of the hard house explosion at the time; Dave swiftly cultivated a hunger for mixing whilst spending his weekends stood at the front whilst acts such as Lisa Pin-Up, BK, Lisa Lashes, Tidy Boys, Cally & Juice, Lab 4 and M-Zone scored the soundtrack to his desire to become a DJ himself.
Practising relentlessly for the many years that followed, mixing and cutting and stacking up mix tapes left right and centre comprising of the finest hard beats around, Dave scored his first gig at The Waterfront at 18 and continued to play as a solo artist until meeting Ed in 2006.
However, not just contented with a DJ union that would turn heads; the two have accomplished a considerable amount of production since their combining of creative forces. Their discography already boasts an impressive plethora of releases, with tracks released on Cally & Juice's leading Ourstyle Recordings label and with further tracks already having attained over 12 No.1 hardstyle dance chart positions globally on such well reputed hard dance outlets such as Bionic, Nutty Trance, Amber D's D-Day Recordings, Compulzion UK and many more ED E.T and D.T.R bring a unique edge to their take on hardstyle which has seen their records supported by international headliners the World over.
Currently signed to the UK's biggest and most respected hardstyle event brand Bionic as residents for their events, not to mention material signed to their digital label and also having their bookings managed by the event giant's artist agency; the pair have had quite the whirlwind journey the last few years with their work reaching incredible new heights they had only previously dreamed of.
Their stage appearances as an unstoppable back to back tour de force of high energy mixing, high end scratching and white hot track selection has seen them take every major player in the scene by storm including Westfest, Hard Dance Awards, Goodgreef, Slammin Vinyl, Koolwaters, Storm, Insomniacz, Escape Gets Filthy, Forbidden, Hardcore Evolution, Breathe, Universal Nation, Sundissential and many, many more seeing them share a line-up with such iconic figures as Showtek, D-Block & S-te-fan, Noisecontrollers, Trance Generator, David Sonar, Activator, Blutonium Boy, Neo, Max B Grant, Dave Joy, Mark EG, Tidy Boys, Lisa Pin-Up, Lisa Lashes, Steve Hill, Alex Kidd, Cally & Juice, JTB & Chuck-E, Kutski, Andy Whitby, Brian M & Mcbunn, Kevin Energy, Vandall, Frisky,Uberdruck and many more.
Currently this very inspiring combo of production and performance greatness are focussed on a whole new of genre bending selection of hardstyle bangers in the studio, with the majority of their work being steadily released on Bionic's widely supported digital label and with them both being signed to the Bionic Artist Agency for future bookings, of which there are many, including a residency at the mighty Bionic itself, the sky really is the limit for these aspiring hardstyle heroes and something tells us the way they are going, they'll exceed that and hit the stars.
