Alma is one of my current projects, involving a selection of simple, one pitch instruments which are played by a group of people. Alma is a modular piece of music, a collection of instruments, a method of teaching music, and a way of bringing people together to create something that wouldn't be possible any other way. Performers are encouraged to move around the performance space, creating an ever-changing relative listening experience for the stationary listener.

With Alma I intend to blur the distinctions between audience and performer, musician and non-musician, as well as challenge the orthodoxy of musicians-on-stage, stereo sound and traditional notation.

Alma will be publicly performed at various stages over 2012. In addition to the performative aspects of the project, instrument building workshops and experiments with organisation through the use of symbols and colours will be involved.

Co-operation and presence can turn simple parts into a greater sum.
