I'd written this song in 03/2011 and let it sit for months.
I was having a bad night and needed to track it, to have it, in a catalogued sense or tangible form and to mark the passage of time.
    Recorded 11/1/2011.
This was recorded in my living room with one mic. I'd rehearsed it twice before i started tracking. The idea was to only capture lead vocal and rhythm guitar. All the sweetening was added on the fly. It was a great exercise in improvisation, all while I was getting drunk on scotch through the night. It's sloppy and noisy, a bit off time, but I think really captures the sentiment of the song. In my experience, trying to clean up and reproduce in a studio environment something like this usually comes out lifeless.
This is raw, honest and as real as it gets.
    -------------------------------
Took a drive down to the coast
Walked up the beach by myself
    Hoping to find some answers
    Just needed to be alone
Forgot about the ring in the dresser
    Hidden under my shirts
I was trying my best to let go
    I was doing so well
Got drunk on whiskey and wine
Seemed like a good thing to do
But it only makes it harder
    To keep from calling you
Wished by now that I'd be stronger
That I could make it on my own
I'll be alright in a few days
    When the sting passes away
And I'll never be the same
    I won't laugh like I used to
No one I can run to
that can make me feel alive again
    Hear all of your stories
    Memorized them all
Didn't matter how often they were told
'Cause I want to part of the new ones
    Forced myself to forget
    The scent of your perfume
But all the little things that charmed us
    Make forgetting hard to do
You knew it would be easier
To be the one to leave
There's no more asking "what went wrong?"
Just know that you must go
For a long time I was caught in between
What you want and what you need
Guess its just part of the choices
    and the lives we lead

    Release date: Dec 17, 2011
