About
Almada, Portugal . Year 1997.
In response to an overpopulated computerized world, ruled by static musical genres, an art conservator decided to fight back; Old school style.
In order to create music with a distinct signature, Luis van Seixas, who's influences covers almost all alternative music styles you can recall since the 1980 to the present day, merged synth pop with dark drum’n’bass beats, experimental electronica with ethnic rhythms or even dub drums with classic EBM leads.
His music creation process is as simple as possible: Human interaction with a few sound sources organized by a sequencer, some dinamic effects and a mixer. All this, without recurring to computers or extravaganza software
The refusal to the computer ready-made patterns and heavily sample based music have played a major part on his decision.
But, please don’t get him wrong. Luis van Seixas aka Sci Fi Industries is not an analogue synths fanatic, nor a computer music hater.
He is just a guy who feels more comfortable dealing with hardware sequencers and dedicated midi synths than with laptops.
Moreover, he joined forces with Fernando Cerqueira aka Rasal.Asad, to create the most prolific Portuguese CD label of the 2000’s.
Thisco records released over 60 CDs between 2001 and 2012 and established the pillars for the modern non-profit label –slash-musician’s community, focus on spread the "This" concept: a greater than one unit, which can act like a building block structure, but on the other hand, behaves as a living being, who questions his existence by confronting the formative norm.
