    Swine into the Water
    © 2011 Duke Hollister

    Once I was strong
    once I was clear
    I grew where I belonged
    I knew no fear

    After so long
    year upon year
    youth nearly gone
    fleeting and pure

    so long since the calm
    so long since the clean
    so rage the fools psalm
    o'r-ruled by his fiend!

    [chorus1]
    silent in the end
    the damned unto the slaughter
    quietly I send
    my swine into the water!
    [x2]

    pages boiling over
    faith has slipped behind
    bend my spine beneath
    the burden of my mind

    skin is freezing over
    blood keeps growing hotter
    wretched and forgotten
    cleanse me with your water

    [chorus2]
    silent in the end
    the damned unto the slaughter
    quietly I send
    my swine into the water!

    [bridge]
    I grip her wrist
    her eyes are wild
    have I done this
    my brittle child?
    waves collide
    against our fists
    the sea insists
    but we refuse to die!!!

(music ran out here, but I definitely want to record the remaining verse, at least the 3rd chorus, for the sake of lyrical composition and narrative closure)

    shaking naked in the night
we stand out in the pasture
    reason now replaced with fright
    damned to weep & wander

    demonic cacophony
    spiritual cancer
    a legion mocking me
    still I never answer.

    [chorus3]
    triumph in the end
    as I explode with laughter
the pigs are in the pond...
    and soon I'll follow after!
