"A classically trained musician gone bad" is one way to describe London's Duct, aka Luke Harris. After writing classical electro acoustic music for Quartets and Orchestras in his early twenties, Luke turned to producing dance music as a break from the institutional frustration of classical. Says Luke: “Dance music was so natural you know, it just made sense. I’d never seen people so honestly feeling any kind of music until I saw a dancefloor move in unison one night at Fabric. It changed my whole perception.”
This personal interest grew into an academic one, leading Luke to Lecture on the history of popular culture music for University of East London, where he still teaches. It also led him and 4 like-minded peers to start Shades Recordings, an imprint focusing on bleeding edge UK dance music in all its many forms.
Owing to the sheer depth of detail, Duct's own music is equally at home in the confinements of bedrooms and the murkier depths of clubs. Look out for his upcoming collab with fellow Shades man Owen Howells under the guise Elson David
