About
"doot" is a project, a phenomenon, a one-shot-deal that grew some legs. It started as an offshoot from a band called Doctor Dark, a tribute to Captain Beefheart. Through that band I met drummer Steve Chillemi, and we spent some time working out parts and playing together, and played a few casual gigs around New Haven, Connecticut. That led to a collaboration with Eugene Chadbourne on a few live gigs. Doot has occasionally featured keyboardist Nate Trier! Doctor Dark played the Zappanale festival in 2006, and Steve and I made a few connections with folks at the Arf Society. It also led to being invited to perform at the Zappanale festival in 2007 (as a trio with guitarist Andre Cholmondeley), and again in 2009 at the Zappanale Street Party. Some of the music, the best of it IMO, is minimally structured improvisation over bass loops and noise machines. Some of it involved performing some pieces based on the compositions of people like Zappa, Hendrix, Beefheart, etc... As a performing entity, doot no longer exists, but I like keeping this SoundCloud feed around for archival purposes, and as a place to drop some of my electronic composition projects. If I develop a wrapper for the new stuff, I will spin off a new SoundCloud channel and move the new stuff there. Feel free to contact me via the SoundCloud profile if you have any questions.
