About
Don’t Be Afraid was set up in 2009. The label specializes in leftfield house music with a UK vibe, offering producers from all over the world who obsess over the UK acid house sound a platform for their work. The first four releases came from Semtek, the alias of Benjamin Roth, and they were written during a spell spent living in the French alps between 2008 and 2009. Semtek's music has slowly drawn the attention of DJs like Craig Richards, who included Lotos Eaters (Neville Watson Remix) on his recent Fabric 58 compilation. The second artist to grace the stable in 2011 was Mr. Beatnick, whose Synthetes EP immediately gained critical acclaim, earning inclusion on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show two weeks running. Unlike labels that specialize in cherry-picking the 'new hot thing', Don't Be Afraid provides a home for its esteemed artists to explore the different angles of their sound. 2011 has already been a momentus year for the label and more is sure to come with new releases due from Mr. Beatnick and new label-member Claws For?.
