About
A multi-platinum selling and triple Finnish Grammy-winning act devoted to poly-stylistic adventurousness, with just four members who met in school, they claim to be the smallest big band in the world...
Don Johnson Big Band is one of those groups that exists somewhere far away and high above the shackles of musical genres. You can call the music hip-hop, because the rapping catches your ear first. Keep listening, and you'll find jazz, dub, raw funk, deep latin house, electronic influences and even country. Name it, and they've probably got it.
The band has made what can only be called an amazing and unlikely journey - from selling their debut album out of their backpacks to topping the charts. All the while, they've managed to bring together hip-hop fans, hard-core metal heads and soccer moms of all ages with their riveting and hugely successful live shows. This sheer energy hasn't gone unnoticed by the likes of Kanye West, James Brown (R.I.P.), George Clinton, Jamiroquai and other headliners for whom the band have had the pleasure of opening up in Europe.
"Fun is the keyword! We love playing music, and we just want everyone to have tons of fun when they come to our shows," says frontman Tommy with a smile. "And when that happens, when you see the people smiling and having a good time, it's the best feeling in the world. No words can describe it."
Tommy Lindgren - Vocals
Johannes Laiho - Keyboards
Kari Saarilahti - Drums, guitars
Pekka Mikkonen - Sax, flute
The band is currently in the studio recording their fifth studio album.
