Born in Minneapolis raised in Minneapolis, teenager in the suburbs of the city. Music became a gateway for Donavon at the early age of 15, take note seriousness was challenged through his maturity, the end result was pure. Age 16 was filled with bland songs that weren't really taken past the point of a release and promotion. Donavon began working with his cousin Matrix on building a name as a duo and also have solo paths. Age 17 Donavon, formally know as "Rival", began writing and recording mixtapes for release to the public as a solo artist. Song's released during this time period brought new listeners and fans. He spent a lot of time responding to diss tracks on the battle site letsbeef. Donavon's 18th brought new challenges of becoming an adult holding a job and building a career in entertainment. Prior to Donavon's 18th he participated in a play at his high school. He performed three times for the high school during his four years there. Aside from school pepfests and fashion shows, Donavon has done live performances at The Raise in Minneapolis, The Rox (now known as Cowboy Jacks) in St. Cloud. Donavon began working on an album called The Coolest Album in mid 2011. This would be the start to an extremely productive year for Donavon, his most productive so far in his career. The Coolest Album released Feb 2012, This would be the final album released under the "Rival" alias, after that the name listed everywhere was "Donavon".
"I want people to just know me on a first name basis, they hear the music they like it they remember Donavon, then if they see me they yell "Donavon" not something that might confuse me" - Donavon
The name was a challenge. During the transition to the new name, some pages were replaced, some were dropped. Post album release the decisions were made of which site were coming with to the new name and needless to say, Myspace barely made the cut. But that added stress onto the next thing, which was this Heartbreak Hotel idea I stumbled across one day, the time lapse was supposed to be longer but I was inspired.
