Snork_
The electronic music career of Dom Dumoulin (formerly known as Snork) started before his first rave, a very unusual thing in the hyperactive Montreal electronic scene of the 90’s. Most of his friends were raving like there’s no tomorrow, though, and when he found himself assisting one of them in the production of a live act, he already felt the urge to create a music of his own.
Since the very start of the year 2000, his music is about atmospheres and soundscapes. His music has deepened quickly and explores new avenues, never losing its architectural essence that will soon become Dom Dumoulin’s trademark.
His early works are either experiments with eclectic melodies and complex rythmic patterns typical of early IDM or excursions in downtempo constantly reaching new layers of depth where the texture evolves and become audio scenery, this last aspect directly inspired by drone music. The whole product is in constant ebullition in an endless suite of self-redefinition that eventuallty leads to the dreamy land of dub techno, where new forms emerge constantly. This piece of music ends up getting praised by Quebec’s most influential figure from the underground, Claude Rajotte.
In 2008, after 8 years of gestation, a first EP called Coccinelle is released on Pert-n-ence under his Snork alias that receives positive reviews from a German music blog, Magagin.
In 2009, Dom creates his own label Algorithm Records and proceed with the release of Bedroom Works, a full album deeply rooted in his IDM influences, and a second EP called Aquarium that is actually s glimpse of music to come. The track features a very slow-paced and deep beat that leads the way underwater into a myriad of drone waves slowly changing colors. In the end, an eerie feeling emerge feeling pretty much like dub techno when it first appeared.
After those releases came the summer and now armed with solid credentials, Dominic gets an invitation to perform as Snork in a Piknic Electronique. In 2010, the prestigious Mutek festival have him perform as Snork.
Now that Snork is on top, Dominic put him to sleep and now starts over under the name Dom Dumoulin and continues to further develop his skills. In 2012, his path crosses Patrice Tremblay (DJ Bushido from Montreal’s 64hz crew) and they proceed with the creation of Pulses, the enigmatic duo. For Dom Dumoulin, it only feels natural that the next step down road is to share the creative process and double the input.
