About
The Dog of Tears is a Psychedelic Trance artist based out of Northern California.
Raised in Framingham, Massachusetts, David Chaim Cohen has been producing electronic music under various monikers for 16 years. In the early, 2000's, DOT discovered psychedelic trance, and moved to California to go study experimental film at CalArts. There he discovered how to incorporate abstraction in all his work, and also started attending various outdoor trance events-- mostly the small, underground kind. Nowadays DOT runs Xexify (Records and Sealion Collective)-- responsible for pureform powerful psychedelic outdoor parties in California since 2006. He also helps to organize the two annual Goa Gil events in California-- Memorial Meltdown and Birthday Bash, and has been featured on Gil's Divine Dozen Lists for a number of years. Recently he was also featured on Goa Gil's Avatar-released compilation, "Shri Maharaj." Other releases are featured and/or forthcoming on Active Meditation Music, Anomalistic Records, Jellyfish Recordings, Mistress of Evil, and of course, Xexify.
Dog of Tears works out of a hardware based studio, mostly using the computer as a glorified tapedeck and editing interface. Most sounds are made with an ever-growing Bugbrand modular system, as well as other modular bits by Wiard, Blacet, and Hordijk, plus instruments by Ciat-lonbarde, Elektron, Oberheim, Sequential Circuits, etc.
