INTERNATIONAL BULLET PROOF TALENT.
Percussionist. Producer. DJ. Sound Architect. Uri Dalal has been invigorating NYC Dance Music and Nightlife Culture for over a decade. Founder of the NYC DJ Alliance and co-founder of the city's first DJ Specialty Shop - the iconic MUSIC FACTORY in Brooklyn, Uri's life had been synonymous with all that is music from day number one.
Born to an Israeli record shop owner and off-Broadway dancer, most DJs could hardly imagine growing up in their very own record-shop, and Dalal never took a single moment for granted.
“…I spent my childhood literally burying myself in music, combing through every single record, devouring every album, artist and genre in my father’s Brooklyn record shop Music Factory, where we catered not only to the local DJs but to the big names like Danny Tenaglia, Frankie Bones and Todd Terry.”
His knowledge of popular music is second to none, making him a favorite ‘go-to’ DJ for his corporate clients like The Walt Disney Company, BBC America, Susan Komen For the Cure, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week events for VIP Clubber and Boutique Artists.
Taught the wheels of steel by a who’s who of NYC DJ royalty, his ability to mix any genre and satisfy music lovers of all ages is simply uncanny.
In addition to his corporate work, Dalal held popular residencies at midtown’s YOTEL, working closely with CEO Gerard Greene and Music Architect DJ Tom Middleton to develop his weekly ‘YO! SATURDAY BRUNCH’, ‘BACK 2 MINE’ and ‘THURSDAY NIGHT KI-KI’ events draw a consistent sexy mixed crowd of leading scene makers, fashionistas, celebrities and music lovers, directly linking themselves to his extensive music catalogue ability to entertain any crowd regardless of age or ethnicity.
Dalal says his favorite Yotel moments weren’t necessarily playing for celebrities or huge events, ”…My favorite moments are when hotel guests would bring their children to Saturday Brunch and let them dance! There is nothing more beautiful than having a dance floor filled with kids, smiles ear to ear bouncing off the walls!”
In 2012 Uri Dalal remixed Electro-pop trio Dragonette’s ”Easy”, a light, sexy vocal that according to Dalal, “…needed some juicy, crunchy elements…” to satisfy his dance floor, earning him some attention. Followed
by a mash-up for South African Rap-Ravers Die Antwoord and a dark and bouncing tribal drum rendition of French Dance-Pop diva Yelle’s beautiful “S’eteint le soleil”.
As a member of the live instrument band Café Negro Dalal scored a hit for legendary NYC dance label King Street Sounds with their 2004 smash ‘In Your Eyes’ peaking at #1 in Turkey and #2 on the Swedish dance charts.
In the early 90’s Dalal started out strictly as a drummer for several Synth-Pop bands and soon caught the ear of good friend ‘Superstar’ DJ Keoki, earning them opening slots at Michael Alig’s Disco 2000 events at the Limelight for artists like Moby and Information Society.
After several band attempts and a short-lived movie career, Dalal made the transition from drummer to DJ.
“…I have always been enthralled with the concept of DJing, which to me is more difficult and challenging than playing in a band. I’ve had the privilege of playing for thousands and for an intimate group of ten or twenty. It’s the same to me. I love the idea of telling a story through music, exciting the dance floor with a clever hook, drum part, or simply making people happy playing their favorite song. It’s very challenging and extremely rewarding to unite a group of people through music. It can be a very spiritual thing, or just plain fun to provide a soundtrack for people to groove to while their evenings play out.
Being a DJ is like being a master painter, the dance floor a huge canvas in which to create. I don’t know the reason but this seems to be my gift. It’s who I am.”
