Toronto (Canada) native, Sydney resident Semper-Fi first discovered the early sounds of dubstep through labels such as Shelflife, Souljah and Tempa back in the early 00’s, gradually collecting tracks over the years while playing predominantly drum’n’bass // hip-hop // reggae sets. His first sets playing dubstep around 2005 mixing with digi dub and steppy breaks and was sold from then on. His first dubstep track was finished early 2007 as a collaboration with Koda called ‘Aurora’ and was soon followed up by an official crunkstep (whut?) remix for American hip-hop veterans Arrested Development. Semper-Fi has had the honour of opening up for a cross section of international artists covering territory from dubstep & reggae, to hip-hop and of course drum’n’bass. In the past few years he’s opened for reggae legends Sly & Robbie with a jungle / dancehall set, more chilled out vibes for dub pioneers Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Mad Professor, and straight up hip-hop for UK heavyweight DJ MK (Roots Manuva’s DJ), not to mention regular slots with New Zealand’s Salmonella Dub. In 2006 his debut EP was released on the Dub Conspiracy label as a collaboration with Philadelphia MC Halfcast bringing together the sounds of hip-hop, dancehall and drum’n’bass.
