the drums perhaps need to be less separated... i mean, i can hear two main clearly different parts: some 'distorted' rolly drums and the 'burial-esque' percussion on the top. perhaps some exchange in between the two would be good-separating the distorted part in pieces or perhaps distorting some hits of the hi end percussion... i dont know how to express it..

having that said, i really like the way you used the kick, it is there, you can tell, but it doesnt have that presence in the mix... have you tried a different version with more kick?? well, perhaps it would change the mood of the track completely.

here is where i am talking about, and i realize that is a synth not your bass, i want a deeper sub for your bass (or just more presence) and i want that synth pulled up some. not to steal focus from the perc or the koto, but to bring more presence to the whole track.
-
Working on that sub base technique. Thanks for the feedback.

Quite an emotional track. I like it very much and I think you have improved quite a bit as a producer! Keep up the good work!

interesting "mood" piece! i'd like to hear the final version -- there are things that seem a little "unfocused" -- but it is a work in progress.
-
@djtbird: Details pls. What do think is unfocused exactly if you don't mind? That's why I posted it after all. And thanks for joining RT.
-
@djsAro: i don't know t-bird, but i can say that the only way that it is at all unfocused to me is that it could use the bass being pulled up a little. would give it a little more backbone which would make it feel less airy and unfocused. when the koto or zither sound is the driving sound and it is meandering in its rhythm it feels unfocused... that should be the lead part but not the driving part. not when you have such great drums and perc and not when you have that sick bassline esp with the filters in the second break(ish area)... does that make sense?
-
Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback. Hard to get sometimes so thank you much for chiming in.

mmm.. another idea... have you tried doing this track, but a bit slower?? like say at dub tempo (70) or even slower. it'd leave more room for the rolly drums to work out and perhaps it would give a more spacey chilled feeling... just an idea.
-
@dvorkru: Thanks for all of your comments

well, perhaps i commented too much, ccriticizing things and all of that, but all i have to say is that i really liked this. moody, dark, that sitar was ace, the percussion was really cool... the things i have said were ideas that came to mind as i was listening to the track....

Well, it's far from perfect but I've heard worse from better DJs and I think it's a pretty good listen. Unedited mix from vinyl. - Like Children Playing - sAro Artwork

mmm delicious 6/8. I really had to count it out to find it, I like how you've compounded the rhythms with the time signature. props.

This is a trip hop style excursion in 6/8. I don't think that compound rhythms are used nearly enough in electronic music and was surprised at how easy it was to put this simple yet effective composition together. I was challenged by my lady to create a lullaby for our baby to be. Pic is the 4D ... - Through the Gate - sAro Artwork

A bit of a slow rolling tune that I liked making. It's again on that fine line between trip hop and dnb.
you have me intrigued from the first sec! nice buildup
