It's not the same – In hindsight the name of this EP is much more than just a title. You could say that it's a maxim that permeates the entire release from the Erfurt-based producer Less. It's the work of dreams packed with strong emotions that is well thought-through; an effort that is just slightly ahead of many producers on the scene. Steadily dealing a dash of deepness and individuality, these cuts trace a circle through the sound cosmos – plunged into the maximum of minimalism, and not least of which, outfitted with an unmistakeable sound. Less, it has been said before, is imminently more. Thereof the vocals of his soul mate Jaezon (Gjaezon) play a considerable role. Since the very first releases the warmth and engaging vocal tones of the Cleveland-born artist constantly invite you on a trip to so many places.
With Less, you notice that he not only derives satisfaction from a single source of inspiration. Rather, in the mid-90's everything began with hip-hop. At that time performing under his given name of Stefan Lessner, he tried his hand on mixes, built and broke beats, wrote texts and kept the pot boiling. Eventually his hands came upon some recordings that immediately touched a nerve – plastered with names like Green Velvet, Laurent Garnier or Ricardo Villalobos. That was back in 1998 and from Stefan emerged Less. Since this time he is constantly on the move – never content to languish. Versatility and a joie de vivre are his essential traveling partners.
The first releases can be found on the netlabel Epicure Business (2005), and shortly thereafter the first physical release "Computer Voodoo" on audiomorph. Later followed releases on domestic labels such as Enliven, Pour Le Merite, Finebeats and Berlin labels such as Lebensfreude and Koax. The EP "It's not the same" from 2010 on Enliven at first glance is one of many on the landscape. However, the title gives you a vision of what could be. Go ahead and have a listen; It's not the same...
