I decided it's finally time I share with you a little bit of what I'm up to almost every Friday and Saturday night at 694 Wine & Spirits, a cozy little spot in Chicago's Noble Square neighborhood. This was recorded January 27, 2012, starting fairly early in the evening. In these early hours -- well before anyone's even thinking about dancing -- I like to take advantage of the situation by mixing it up and being spontaneous, opting for personal favorites from over the years rather than the newest tracks. Sometimes I'll even challenge myself to switch genres and eras song by song in order to keep it fresh and unpredictable, often mixing songs I've never mixed together before, until it feels time to dial into a more focused direction.

This recorded set is a good example of that philosophy plays out. It starts off around 100 bpm, touching on 80s and 90s pop, some disco and boogie jams, cosmic funk, a little hip hop flavor, and a dash of indie, before finally settling in about halfway through on nu disco and indie dance around 115 bpm (as I often do), but still leaves a few surprises in store. I hope you find it to be a good trip.
