Born and raised in the beautiful Hawaiian islands, Keala is best known as one of the Best Female Surfers in the world and is arguably the Best Female Big Wave Surfer on the planet. Keala spent 11 years competing at the highest level on the ASP World Championship Tour finishing runner-up to the World Title in 2003 and throwing down history making performances at some of the heaviest waves in the World.
It was also in 2003 that Keala caught the acting bug after working on Universal Pictures’ major motion picture, Blue Crush, and by the end of 2006 she resigned from the ASP World Surfing Tour to take a role as a Season Regular on the HBO TV Drama Series, John From Cincinnati. When the show was done filming, Keala decided to become a Professional Freesurfer for her main sponsor Billabong and not rejoin the ASP tour so she could focus more on Big Wave Surfing and her DJ aspirations.
It was during her early years of traveling around the globe on the surfing tour that Keala fell in love with the uplifting energy of house music. Very shortly after, she purchased two turntables and a mixer and set out to become a bad ass female DJ . Learning what she could from local DJ’s in Hawaii, it was when Keala was between competitions that she would travel to NYC or to the WMC in Miami to be further inspired by her favorite world renown DJ's and finding her greatest influence in DJ Danny Teneglia’s style.
Keala has played internationally at events in France, Brazil, Spain, South Africa, Australia and the UK as well as in major U.S. cities, most notably opening for Snoop Dogg at the Sony Playstation 14th Annual Gran Turismo Awards at Rain Nightclub in Las Vegas, NV.
Keala's DJ style ranges from Tech House, Tribal House, Deep House, Hip-hop House, Mash-up, Remix, Funk and Disco House
