DJ Harlo, is one of the most influential DJs in the Central Oregon area, working in both the electronic dance music scene as well as that of hip hop production.
From a young age, Harlo knew that he had to perform. He started out fostering this need by participating in the Theater Arts program at Rancho Buena Vista High in San Diego, California. It was in this program where he was introduced to mixing music. He was quickly making mix tapes for schoolmates. He continued to build on his love for music by acting as a roadie for local punk/metal bands, Throk Brutal and Peace Corpse.
Harlo started his career as a performing DJ in 1997. He competed in his first DJ battle in 1998, in a competition sponsored by Vestax. Out of a field of nearly 50 competitors, he came out strong, sealing a 3rd place win. Harlo was also the first DJ to bring turntables onto the electronic dance scene in Bend, Oregon.
Not happy being a typical DJ, Harlo went on to receive his Masters degree in Audio Engineering & Postproduction from The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences. As a firm believer of the phrase “In order for true knowledge and wisdom to be gained, it first must be shared," he has also developed a certification class for the software Reason that is used in many recording schools today. He also offers workshops aimed at the person interested in the music or DJ business, open to novices and experienced musicians alike. With a strong background in cellular services and broadband technology, Harlo is a quick learner and an early adopter to technological changes in both the DJ and audio engineering fields.
Professionally, Harlo has acted as the Chief audio engineer for Slipmat Science as well as for Mad Happy Productions. He was also Business Admin for Speaker Abuse Records. In late 2012, he opened his own studio, Mixed Heritage Studios in Tigard, Oregon.
Touring throughout Oregon and Idaho with hip hop acts Jay Tablet and Cloaked Characters, Harlo has also performed at clubs XS, TAO, and Marquee in Las Vegas. He opened for Snoop Dogg at the Bend, Oregon stop of his Winter 2012 tour. Harlo has also performed with other global acts: SPL, Woody McBride, Ben Samples, Nit Grit, Nasty Nasty, Heyoka and many others.
Holding the honor of brand DJ for Bendistillery, creators of Crater Lake Vodka, Harlo holds residency at The Astro Lounge in Bend, Oregon. He can also be heard performing as he regularly runs mix sets on Digitally Imported radio show (DI.FM)
Harlo has three commercially released CD mix sets and two EP sets via Symphonic Distribution. That are available world wide.
With his touring, composing and the opening of his studio, Harlo is ready to take the world by storm, making a dent in the music industry by leading the way for other Oregonian EDM musicians.
