Truly falling in love with the artform as a radio DJ, L.A. native GOZAR, a.k.a. Josh Weiss, has been mixing records for listeners and dancers for a decade. His sets are now based heavily in Afro-Caribbean sounds, full of funky indigenous tropical beats from Colombia, Nigeria, Peru, Los Angeles and beyond. After living in Guatemala in 07-08 throwingparties and working on a documentary, he returned to the City of Angels to DJ, take photos and enjoy the Cali sunshine.His monthly residency, SUBSUELO, takes place at Eastside Luv in Boyle Heights and focuses on Global Bass with an infusion of live music, drums and Flamenco dancing.
GOZAR has shared a stage with Quantic, Jeremy Sole, Oro 11, Brookyln's Cumba Mela crew (2Melo, Thornato & Brookyln Shanti), El Canyonazo, DJ Ethos, DJ Eko, DJ Center, Kid Gusto, Captain Planet, Mochilla (B+ & Coleman), Quetzal Guerrero, Todd Simon, Righteous Trash, KCRW's Anthony Valadez, DJ Dacel, the Bodega crew (Panamami, Cee Brown & Melaaza), Gazoo, DJ Bennett, Glenn Red, DJ Reyes, Cheb I Sabbah, Washington D.C.'s Funk DC crew (DJ Payne, Moose & Shizon), the Mad Decent crew (Paul Devro & Benzona), O-Dub aka Oliver Wang and many others.
When not playing music, he runs JWeissCreative, a creative & mobile-focused technology consulting company which finds him working with DJs such as Tom Schnabel & Jeremy Sole as well as architecture firms, radio stations, non-profit organizations, retail businesses, restaurants, doctors, lawyers web developers, real estate agents,insurance agents, film & television producers, writers & actors, restaurants, photographers,studios and musicians.
