DJ EKO (NYC/SF/LA), is a sound ambassador with a penchant for cutting edge music movements that began with programming a decade-long radio program alongside contemporaries like Gilles Peterson and Garth Trinidad. Always acknowledged as an ‘ahead-of-the-curve’ tastemaker, she was initiated into journalism for the connoisseurs’ nexus of urban & electronic music, URB Magazine and wrote for them for nearly a decade. She just took up the pen again and is a featured writer for Okayfuture.com (the new electronic arm of Okayplayer). She breaks new music, introduces bloggers to up-and-coming producers and garnered gold plaques on her walls in the past for artists like D’angelo & Mos Def. She continues exposing listeners to amazing new sounds, be it in person or over her sometimes-home of East Village Radio.
Her passion in seeking out the newest, most creative production, remixes and developing genres remains unyielding. Everyone notes the way she loves the music she is playing and hears it in the way she weaves genres from many backgrounds together effortlessly, with her own touch.
Eko’s current favorite modality is eclectic sets. She’s got a huge crush on the intersection of future soul and future bass and is also keeping an eye out for the intersection of indigenous music and electronic music as well.
Known for being extremely versatile and playing good, soulful music tastefully, Eko is a master of moods. You’re likely to find her in the most diverse settings from yoga classes to night clubs, fashion shows, art galleries, festivals, silent discos, launch parties and renegade soirees alongside regularly working with several high-profile clients.
