Past

Joe Martinez II A.K.A. DJ Aquapimp was born February 4, 1985 in Houston, TX. His Love for music had been strongly influenced by his father, Joe Martinez Sr., Who was a musician since the early 60s when he and his brothers formed the Tejano Band "Little Joe and the Embers."

When Aquapimp was born his father's band had changed names to the "Phantacy Band" which featured Texas wide singles such as "Cu Cu Ru Cu Cu" and was the number one requested song on Tejano stations around Texas. "I am extremely proud of my fathers accomplishments in Tejano Music and even more proud to call myself a Tejano. You see I grew up around it, Its who I am and where I'm from, a Texan of Spanish Descent." -Aquapimp

In the early 90s the "Phantacy Band" had split up which led Joe Martinez Sr. to Mobile DJing. Aquapimp at the time was still only about 9 years old but his interest in music became apparent in 1996 when he joined the school band at his school, Klein Intermediate. After 2 years of playing the trumpet Aquapimp decided that the trumpet wasn't his thing.

In 1998 DJ Aquapimp went to his first mobile DJ gig with his father and it was that day that he found his passion for DJing. So he continued DJing mobile gigs with his father spinning Tejano and Hip hop at weddings Quinceanera's, sweet sixteens, house parties, and small clubs.

In 1999 Aquapimp was introduced to the wide world of electronic dance music (EDM). He experimented with all genres such as drum & bass, house, tech, break-beat, and trance until he found that unique blend of Melodic/uplifting/tech/trance that his fans have come to like best about him

"You can't define what i spin with one word. My sets contain anything from electro house, Breaks, progressive, Tech, and trance." "When I Spin I like to take my listeners on a ride through the music, almost as if I'm telling a story I build my set up to a climax and mellow it out in the end, But i always leave them wanting more" -Aquapimp

In 2005 Aquapimp teamed up with All Star Djs, which is owned and founded by his cousin, Pat Salas, also drummer of local band IAMBIK. Together they begun promoting parties and bashes that organized by All Star Djs.

Aquapimp was also affiliated with a few upcoming local rappers such as Swangin Sam & High G of Swangin Beats and Phrank Roacha C.E.O. of Ontopa records. in 06 Aquapimp was featured on Swangin Sam and High G's album "Gotta be high" In which he mixed the Screwed version of the album.

"It was just a little something on the side that I liked to do with my friends, I still will always be about my trance but its fun to do this hip hop stuff with them" -Aquapimp

In 2006 Aquapimp Decided that he wanted to make a push for something more than mobile DJing. He wanted to reach his goals of being a successful dj/re-mixer/producer. So he saved up from his Gigs at places like Zake Sushi Lounge and various clubs around the Houston area and begun to build his home studio while also educating himself any way he could in Audio Engineering and Music Theory.

In 2007 Aquapimp was a finalist in the Houston press Ultra music festival DJ Spin-off. In 08 He was Invited to be a Guest DJ on Houston's leading electronic radio show, The MK Ultra Show on 91.7 KTRU Rice radio. A 3 hour block of Guest DJ sets (1 hour each) that comes on most Fridays unless Rice is broadcasting a game.

After taking 2009 off for a small break from the performer side of the music scene Aquapimp returned in March of 2010 with Qousey Ben-Musa of Audiomatic Productions for a show at SXSW in Austin and Later a Pool Pre-party For Future Fest in July.

In August of 2010 Aquapimp was offered a spot at the Orbit Room’s “Bounce Thursdays” (Now “Shock Therapy Thursdays”) By Lamaro Wattier AKA Zombie-Blonde. His Thursday night Performance in which he closed for Jasmine Rose of Kaos ent. was embraced by everyone in attendance. Which led to Neuro Shock offering him a top spot in their crew and his first big break in the Houston EDM scene when Wes Walz & Jasmine Rose of Kaos ent. offered him his first big gig, Back to tha Phuture at Funplex in Houston.

“I can’t thank those guy’s enough! Zombie, Wes, Jasmine, They are a big reason why I am in this scene right now” -Aquapimp
