Coming straight out of the well-known Washington projects in Spanish Harlem where DJ Oreon’s loving grandmother and uncles brought him up. At the age of twelve while the average young boy was saving up for either action figures or the latest video game. Oreon was accumulating vinyl records and Kid Capri tapes. Oreon studied the Art of the Mixing Music everyday afterschool with only a double cassette radio. Oreon’s uncle noticed his determination to follow in his footsteps and allow a young Oreon to tag along to events which he enjoyed the atmosphere and the energy. One memorable moment with his Uncle is back in 1989 when Oreon watched his Uncle DJ with Afrika Bambaataa and the all mighty Zulu nation.
In 1990 DJ Oreon was offered a gig with WBLS to DJ Queens Day. He got to show off his skills infront of hundreds of people and received positive feedback from the crowd. From that event he spun for community parties, block parties and weddings. Oreon also entered DMC competitions to battle the best of the best where he realized he has enough confidence to pursue a career in the music industry. So for the next couple of years Oreon juggled his music between work and High School, he also attended music seminars and expos to expand his knowledge in music. During that time he also obtained a job at Manhattan Transfer as an Assistant Sound Editor. Being also a teenage father of two beautiful children helped Oreon to be more focused and determined to achieve his goal to become a recognized DJ. So he can be a better provider and role model for his children. As technology upgraded so did his equipment. Oreon also improved on his natural talent in speed and scratching. He also made a series of mixed cd’s demonstrating talent and diversity in music in which he gave to every promoter in NYC. The relationship he made with the promoters has opened many doors for him clubs such as: Roxy, China Club, Roseland, Club NY,Catch Rooftop Room Service, Fashion Week in September & February, Rosewood, Polar Lounge, Dream Hotel, The Empire Hotel, The W Hotel, Galway Hooker, The Half Pint, Party For Zoe Jackson/Daughter of Samuel L Jackson at the Gansevoort Rooftop, Park NYC, Kiss and Fly, and the after party for the Gotham Awards at Andaz Hotel. With his experience and talent Oreon was given opportunity to work with some of New York’s Hottest Industry parties such as Eminem’s Album Release Party, Derek Jeter’s Birthday Bash, Jaime Lynn Singler’s Birthday Party, The New York Yankees World Series 2000 After Party, Playboy playmate of the year 2008, and HBO Boxing Entertainment. He also have had numerous celebrity guest appearances like: Prince, Wyclef Jean, Lucy Liu, Brittany Murphy, Richard Jefferson, Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys, Usher, Carson Daley,Richard Jefferson and various cast members of HBO series Oz, The Sopranos and The Wire.
