“To me, being a DJ is like being a conductor, a maestro and a story teller all at once.”
DJ Kei aka Kei Amemiya was born in a little town called Banff, Canada. Influenced by all the beauty around him he started his journey into music with the piano and classical music as an infant. In his teens he picked up the saxophone and broadened his horizon with a variety of jazz. At 15 Kei had his first encounter with electronic music which immediately engulfed him mind, body, and soul. From that moment on he knew what his dream and life would be.
In 2008, a mere 2 years into his DJ career, driven by his passion decided to challenge himself and made the voyage to the isle of dreams, Ibiza. Throwing down his first gig 2 days after touching down in paradise he quickly got picked up by Filth UK and The Zoo Project Ibiza, going on to play numerous gigs over the next 7 months ranging from sunset boat parties, villas, clubs, pool parties, Ibiza Rocks Hotel, Zoo Project Ibiza, and even scoring a main room set in the super-club Es Paradis.
Upon his return to Canada, DJ Kei held a residency at the Aurora Nightclub in Banff for 2 years. Looking for progression Kei then made the move west to BC and has developed quite the reputation amongst the Western Canadian Music Festival crowd playing multiple sets at Motion Notion 2010 alongside artists such as Crystal Method and Mimosa. Headlining The Groove Music Festival 2011-2013, Festivus, Sync, Fishbone, BiB, etc... Since making his move to Vancouver DJ Kei has made an impact making it to runner up in Intimate Production's “So you think you can DJ” competition for the residency spot for Signal Saturday, and has held and played several residencies and gigs in and around the Vancouver area.
DJ Kei is a pure entertainer, infecting the dance floor with his animated performance, passion for the music he loves and a solid dose of BASS HEAVY, bouncy, thought propelling rhythms and melodies, amalgamated by his top notch skills and an in depth understanding of what makes people feel and move, leaving them dripping sweat, cheering for more.
