DJ Grotesque has been keeping busy on the Hobart club scene for quite a while now. From residencies, support slots, touring and festivals to promoting, hosting radio shows and production it's no surprise that he won the Amplified Awards 'DJ of the Year Award' in 2010. With a passion for getting people to shake what their mothers gave them, he's definitely become a dance floor favourite.
With the firm belief that there are only two genres (good music and bad music!) his sets are always full of surprises, from Bobby McFerrin to House of Pain to Johnny Cash to Bassnectar nothing is out of bounds. He is also a firm believer that while people will always want to hear the classics, it's the DJs job to open the audiences eyes to new music.
The digital DJ revolution has opened a lot of avenues for creativity and DJ Grotesque has embraced the change with the addition of video to his repertoire. Keeping to his 'anything goes' musical tastes, his audio visual show takes everything from obscure instructional videos to classic cinema and throws it at the dancefloor.
Now in his eighth year as a resident at local nightclub Mobius, he can also be seen most weekend playing at Cargo Bar bringing the funk vibe. He has also held down regular slots at Curlys, Syrup and Ivory. He has been fortunate enough to share a stage with the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Mix Master Mike, Z-Trip, Q-Bert, Lyrics Born, Ugly Duckling, The Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso, Urthboy, The Herd and many more. He is also one of only three local DJs to have had the opportunity to play on the main stage at The Falls Festival in Marion Bay bringing in the new year after Michael Franti and Spearhead.
