US Director of Operations and A&R for Diamond Life Records
Often teased in junior high school when Eddie Murphy brought The Golden Childto life on the big screen, Eric Dumbaugh, flipped the script and made it his nickname. While he was distributing mixtapes in the eighties for friends he went by "The Golden Child."
He followed up with promoting house parties and sanctioned events with the local military DJ's from RAF Lakenheath in England. GoldNKiD grew up there following his return from the third world of Taiwan where his mother's family is from. He spent two years there, suffered culture shock, but learned two new languages and gained a much wider view of the world and differing cultures,
GoldNKiD spent over a decade in England and travelled both the local island and European continent. This would serve him well later. After graduating High School First Seed in Debate, Public and Extemporaneous Speaking, Drama, Reading Interpretations, and Champion for all European Department of Defense Dependent Schools he began to concentrate on building a career.
As a senior he battled over 500+ other contenders and secured a chance to audition for a new indie flick, Waterland starring Ethan Hawke, after he had just done Dead Poets' Society; Stephen Gyllenhall (Jake and Maggie's brother) was fresh from directing Sex, Lies, & Videotape. Knowing the significance of the opportunity Eric persevered until he finally auditioned live in London for Stephen at the studio where filming was already taking place.
This experience fueled Eric's desire to entertain. He was offered roles and opportunities but, living in the UK, he could not act upon these offers [no pun intended] as they interfered with his parents' desire he remain in England and take college courses through University of Maryland. He complied long enough to gain both the experience and reputation as a performer, emcee, DJ, and promoter. Sean Combs was his idol and GoldNkiD followed "Diddy's" every move: including waliking away from Atlantic to start his boutique label, Bad Boy, and leverage ventures and patnerships to his advantage.
When he got the clarion call to contract as resident DJ at University of Maryland's Manheim Campus in Germany he packed up his gear and moved to Germany. The clubs in the UK spoke his language; how would he get the crowd live when entire clubs didn't speak English. The former resident, he battled "The Golden Child", and lost to crowd participation. That night the two DJs, his name was DJ GOAT, talked and "The Golden Child" recognized the popularity of the name and shortened it to his online handle of the time (before the Web Internet)...GoldNKiD.
This was 1996 and there was a oaradigm shift in music and "techno" came into vogue. Eric used this to mix dance remixes of hip hop or R&B together with Miami Bass, Detroit and NY Techno, and quicly became "the DJ" to go to and was offered the opportunity to tour with legends like LTJ Bukem, Carl Cox, DJ Honda, and many others throughout the EU DJ circuit.
Following the birth of his son he moved back to NorCal, Humboldt County and applied for a job as a roadie for a mobile DJ service. A true DJ he brought along his favorite slappers in the event he was asked to spin. Jason, owner of Club West in Eureka at the time, asked me to spin for him. DJ GoldNKiD gave him a half an hour set and pulled out all stops. After completing his set the owner shook his head and said, "Forget mobile DJing. I own this club. Would you accept resident DJ and can you play Thursday. Friday, Saturday, and Sundays?" DJ GoldNKiD was born to the US market.
Nealery fifteen years of grinding with other producers, managing, promoting, and working an IT job by day didn't make him popular with his son's mother. Vowing to "Ride or Die," DJ GoldNKiD's persistence paid off when he founded Empire of the Sons after a near fatal car accident in 2003. Leaving him unable to walk, let alone gig, he turned back to computers and discovered Myspace and the power it held at the time.
In less than three years he was fit to return to work, as he had MAJOR bills to pay, and he made music and promoting second on his priority list. Frustrated by his abilities, but his inability to capitalize, he wrote a business plan and put a group of artists from Norway together with a few local high profile artists he's worked with before and Empire of the Sons was born in '06.
GoldNKiD was the Executive Producer of Sine of the Times, the EP produced to take to conferences, and founder of the crew. Drawing on market trends GoldNKiD immediately partnered with GAMPHACE, a Motivational T-Shirt company with a good message poorly executed.
Seeing the potential in GoldNKiD he was made CEO of the company, by owner Robert Moore, several times. GoldNKiD put the shirts on the backs of celebrities and artists; he then branded his demo with the logo and message. He took over the conference and was approached by half of the attendees; this confirmed the model he was building for GAMPHACE was successful...
Unfortunately, the owner realized the commodity and value Eric was building in the brand and stripped GoldNKiD of his title. Once realizing he was being used Eric he cut all ties. Twice Mr. Moore has run smear campaigns via online social networks. He succeeded in demoralizing Eric after losing 100+ contacts, and his reputation, on LinkedIn: THE hub for business in 09/10. Eric has since built that reputation back. Thank you to all that dropped him: you weren't real friends anyway. ;)
Recognizing the success of Empire of the Sons GoldNKiD started fresh with a new company and new producer. That venture was wildly UNSUCCESSFUL; however, it brought DJ GoldNKiD to a new level in life and helped put him back on course to success.
Less than one month after resigning, with predjudice, from [other company] GoldNKiD's efforts were noticed by Paul Cooke, three time platinum award winner for his work as founder and drummer for the band, Sade. Within a matter of days Paul was convinced and DJ GoldNKiD, Eric Dumbaugh, is now the US Director of Operations and A&R for Diamond Life Recordsas of July 2010.
