For the better part of the last decade and a half, DJ Cruze has been bringing blistering hardcore beats to the main stage, back room, house party, field, radio station and in fact just about anywhere the UK hardcore genre can be heard and enjoyed. Having established regular sets with event brands both in the UK and abroad with America, Spain and Hungary amongst other countries to his credit, it’s evident within five minutes of hearing a set from Cruze, that this is an artist that brings old school ethics to the next generation, with a new, throbbing, rocking and energetic enthusiasm that matches in turn the very essence of the scene he loves.
Taking his cue from happy hardcore’s earlier incantations; it was a memorable set from Carl Cox back in 1992 that ignited his enthusiasm for the genre. Knowing there and then that this was his destiny, he took to practising, learning, teaching himself the art and craft of the mix and just a year later he played out his first set in a local bar belting out the finest hardcore at the time with gusto. 1993 marked the flight of the Cruze and the next eleven years would be spent building up a nicely stacked CV of multi genred parties and rave events that would set the standard for a reputation that would proceed him based alone on DJ’ing skill and technical ability. This in effect was unheard of, as a lot of hardcore’s clockwork system depends on both mixing ability and production in order to make any sort of major breakthrough and in 2004, Cruze did just that at Seduction’s almighty Uproar event, without yet having produced one single tune.
Speaking volumes for his work as a DJ and as an all round entertainer, word soon spread and it didn’t take long for HTID, Hardcore Heaven, Fusion and the likes of Natural Born Ravers to follow suit and soon enough he was sharing a stage with those he had either up to now admired as peers or presently a follower of. Artists like Billy Daniel Bunter, Seduction, Hixxy, Slipmatt, Gammer, Joey Riot and co; he could now say he’d appeared on the same flyer at the same event which added to his continuing and unwavering hunger for more.
Following the tradition of DJ’s also producing and working their own material to give their set that altogether independent edge, in 2006 Cruze met his present production partner Breaks and fulfilled another life long tick off the to do list, their first official release. The outcome of their regular studio sessions would see not only the invention of their production house Trackmaster Music (TMM), but also see their work signed to Robbie Long’s widely acclaimed Thin ‘N’ Crispy label giving rise to their first big release - the bouncy and frenetic ‘Track Masters’, that also showcased three other tracks of EP greatness that featured fresh productions ‘Electro Hardcore’, ‘Watch The DJ’ and ‘Scratch Attack’.
Only leading to further cement Cruze’s reputation as a hard working and dedicated member of the hardcore movement, Cruze & Breaks along with the MC Frikshon would record a further selection of tracks that would help define them as engineers of some of the finest, upfront, cutting edge hardcore around. Tracks such as their first ever effort at production prior to TNC’s EP ‘You Will Never Know’ (with Laura Stone & Breaks on Nu Asylum and engineered by Hatrixx), was followed by ‘Wanting You’, ‘Still Wanting You’ (with Matt Envy on Fast Digital), ‘Respect’ (with Double Decka on Relentless Digital and later remixed by Firefly on Nu Energy Digital), ‘Rockin To The Flavour’ (with Friction & Breaks on Revelation Digital), ‘Drugs Are Refreshing’ (with Himbo & Hoodzie), ‘Can You Feel It’ (with Breaks & Kelly C on TNC) and the massive present upfront forthcoming anthems ‘Everybody Wants To Be A DJ’ and ‘Speaker Shake’ (with Breaks also on TNC).
There’s more of course, with remix work with Samba D and a number of featured projects making it onto compilations on both physical CD and digital release. These include 15 Years Of Hardcore, Hardcore Underground 2, Hardcore Addiction 1, Sound Of Hardcore 2009 and Cruze’s very own mix CD along with Breaks on Disc 3 of the Crush On Hardcore compilation.
Managing to keep an engaging and continuous body of original production work has also seen their work favoured and played on the show of Radio One’s late night master of the underground Kutski, with many of the aforementioned studio slammers being tried and tested on his show. Cruze is no stranger to radio himself though, his weekly show on the UK’s biggest hardcore online digital station Krafty Radio attracts a regular weekly following of his supporters every Wednesday night from 7pm; further strengthening his followers within an ever building and vibrant UK hardcore scene. A factor that would aid in his now regular appointments with Candyball and Space Jam events in the USA, where he visits to entertain the masses stateside with his fresh, exciting and unique live presence and energy.
These attributes, combined with a true love for hardcore are what keeps Cruze not only on the radar on many of the promoters of today’s finer hardcore parties, but also something that’s blessed him with several award nominations at the prestigious Slammin Vinyl Hardcore Heaven Awards year in, year out.
Now, Cruze is pleased to be continuing his input to a scene that he loves as much as it loves him, he continues to entertain gigs all over the globe and is most proud to announce the launch of his first Trackmaster Music release in the early part of the new decade, marking the birth of the TMM label. Featuring not one, but three Cruze & Breaks anthems (along with MC Frikshon), which includes the incredible Donna Grassie on the first ‘You Should Know’, an interesting take on classical in ‘Beat Oven’ and the main room hit ‘Phattrack’ all scheduled to tear up every club or party they are aired at in a big way.
Only ever wanting to be able to build upon his present achievements as someone that quite simply loves to entertain through music, fifteen years on and Cruze has every intention of putting in another decade of dedication, commitment, great live sets and innovative and well crafted new tracks. Great then that we stand at the dawn of a new decade in hardcore, because one thing is for certain… it’s got Cruze written all over it.
