Biography
Dirty Dan was first exposed to the world of electronic music when he was
11-years-old after acquiring his first after school job at a local
record store in Queens in 1989. Pricing, stocking, handing out fliers, and
learning to mix records were the catalysts for what was to come. It wasn’t long before Dan was roped into the dance music scene, spending all night
listening to mixes and waiting for his day to hit the club. By 1991
Dan had made friends with all the promoters and DJ's in the neighborhood
from working at the record shop, and finally got his chance to hit a
NYC outlaw party in a warehouse in Brooklyn. By High school Dan had
been grounded so many times for sneaking out to parties his parents
literally put bars on the windows so he couldn't escape...but that wouldn’t stop him.
Originally hailing from Queens, Dan Uhl unknowingly began a quest that would ultimately put him in the driver’s seat of one of the most outrageous journeys of his life. By 1994 he got involved in promoting venues that included the legendary Limelight, Disco 2000, The Paladium, The Shelter, and more.
He broke ground in 1996-7, appearing in the critically acclaimed film Modulations the History of Electronic Music ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPh6ppN0KLM ), a documentary on the rave scene and electronic music. He moved into intelligent lighting at the Soundfactory and The World on 43rd St. in the early 2000's, working alongside the likes of Danny Teneglia, Jonathan Peters, Junior Vasques, Carl Cox and all the greats, collecting their records and watching them closely in the booth week in and week out.. for the next 5 years of his life.
Things began to fall into place when he packed up all of his knowledge and moved across the country from NYC to Anchorage, Alaska in 2006 to study broadcasting.
Once there, he set up a residency at a local lounge "Sub Zero" and began an afterhours club called "The Kodiak Bar”, bringing the NY house, hip-hop and techno flavor to the far northwest. In 2007 Dan started "In the Mix" a radio show on 88.1 fm webcast world wide on www.uaa.alaska.edu/krua and in 2008 Dan started “Rhythmic Alchemy" on 88.1. The year 2009 saw his first weekly radio show 'ELECTRO LUNCH' on 88.1 FM. With 100's of radio mix releases since 2006,guest mixes on Xm/Sirrius , Clear Channel, NNB, and countless internet radio broadcasts, his mixing skills have been proven time and time again. Dirty Dan has graced the stages alongside DJ's such as Nigel Richards, Dj Shortee, Dj Dan, Boy George, Marc Romboy, Showtech, DB & Dara, Miss Jennifer, Peter Bailey, Eric Harary, Audio Injection, Tom Hades, Evil Eddie Richards, Venom, and KDrew.
Now he is Music Choices techno and electro maestro, heard by millions weekly across the country on the Dance/Electronica channel and Mixtape Channels, alongside with his amazing remixes available on Beatport which have been supported by Green Velvet, Santiago and Bushido, TheBulgarian, Bit Crushers, Larry Tee, Armin Van Buuren, D-Phrag, Dj Funk & Derek Howell. His podcast is one of the most listened to on Itunes and he has rocked the globe from England to Mexico and all over the U.S. Gracing the stage with many of his child hood heroes he has made it a long way.. He built quite a niche in in his hometown and there is plenty more to come from this NYC Legend.. so stay tuned!
