March 18 sees the highly-anticipated release of 'Stratus Energy', the new album from London disco pioneers FAZE ACTION.
Back from the future to May 2009, London duo Faze Action are continuing their quest to spread disco fever to one and all, having put together one of the most exciting albums of the year: ‘Stratus Energy’.
When Faze Action first broke onto the scene in the mid-90’s they immediately changed the rules: at a time when BPMs were faster and dance culture was still very much about RAVE, their grooves were not the flavour of the time. However the quality of their productions shone through, and brothers Robin and Simon Lee released a string of essential 12”s on Nuphonic under the name Faze Action - including the classic ‘In The Trees’ – which are now considered essential for any collector and enthusiast.
In 2008, ‘In The Trees’ was re-issued upon its 10th anniversary with stunning remixes by Carl Craig and Jerome Sydenham, affirming its classic and marking the beginning of a new chapter in the story of Faze Action. Since then, the Lee's have been busier than ever, consolidating their disco roots with 6 fresh 12”s on their own FAR label and remixing the likes of Johnny Hammond, Metronomy and Da Lata.
Their new album ‘Stratus Energy’ fuses disco, balearica and a smattering of psychedelia, and manages to find that special balance between classic and contemporary, and incorporates theremins, moogs and cellos into their songs to create an interplanetary journey.
To support ‘Stratus Energy,’ Faze Action will be taking their Disco sound on tour in 2009. While the original partnership of brothers Simon and Robin Lee is still very much at the heart of the project, they are no longer just a studio production and DJ duo, but a fully live 6-piece band with vocals from Mary Moore, Tasita D’mour and Robin Lee. Every track is an original recording and you can catch the full force of the live experience at the album launch party at GoZilla in Cargo, London on 23rd May and 14th July at the Garden Festival in Croatia.
It’s time to get cosmic.
