DEVASTATION ROSE Mission Statement (written by John Sordia, Topher Adams, and Sara Snyder):
As in most any small town in America, on May 21, 2013, the children of Moore, Oklahoma laughed and ran on school playgrounds and chattered with excitement about the impending return of summer vacation. But in Moore, on this fateful day, the lives of those children, their teachers, and their families were shattered by one of the worst tornados in American history. The massive tornado left most of Moore in shambles and savagely took the lives of some children who had minutes earlier brimmed with hopes and dreams of bright futures.
Meanwhile, reports of devastation and grief, as well as tales of profound human courage, pour in from Moore and other towns in Oklahoma. The rest of us watching from hundreds or thousands of miles away shed tears of sadness and loss, but also tears of joy at the vitality of the human spirit. Our hearts ache with Oklahoma, and we wish to aid those who have lost everything. Yet, we also wish to make a monument to those lives that ended on that terrible day.
Devastation Rose celebrates those who were lost and also those who survived. We represent musicians, artists, and media from across the globe who have joined creative forces to raise funds to aid the survivors of the May 19th and 20th tornados in Oklahoma. Will you also join us in helping these families rebuild their lives? Nothing can replace the loved ones who were lost, but we can lend our talents to assist those still here in rebuilding their schools, homes, and businesses. With sound and art we will build a sonic memorial.
Devastation Rose is a collaborative project and we are in need of more amazing talent like you to participate. We will be creating a compilation of music and art. All proceeds from sales of the compilation will be donated to the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity.
