Dekata Project “My People”
Release Date 4th April 2011
Fresh from a highly successful residency at the ever fashionable Favela Chic, Dekata Project deliver their new single, a hot and infectious blend of UK funky, soul and much more.
Dekata Project is the brainchild of songwriter, sax player and producer Sam Sharp, aided and abetted in the production department by his long time ally dance godfather Zed Bias aka Maddslinky.
The new release "My People" features sumptuous vocals from Dekata family member Yvette – also of Boxettes fame - riding high over a tight rhythmic track, insistent horns and on it beats. Add in a hookline you won’t forget, an irresistible groove, and you’ve got one killer track.
As you’d expect from previous Dekata Project releases, there’s a choice selection of remixers each with their own unique take on this tune.
Toby ioi’s genre crossing sound has already been making waves on Radio 1, 1xtra, Choice FM and Rinse. Toby has worked with and alongside artists such as Sway, Estelle’s Blak Twang and Wiley whilst his production and remix credits include house dons Hoxton Whores, trip hop legend Tricky, chart topper Spoonface, and grammy nominee Tippa Irie and Raghav so we’re delighted to have Dekata joining this distinguished list.
Greymatter is another rising star with an impressive track record having worked with Terry Callier, Domu, TRG, Illum Sphere, Altered Natives, Karizma, Warrior One, Deize Tigrona, Mr Lager, and Milyoo as well as releasing his own material on Wolf Music, Brownswood, Fat City, Tru Thoughts, Mr Bongo, Bass and Unique Uncut amongst others Recent remix activity includes Throwing Snow, Subeena, Aroop Roy, Klic, and Randomer.
Zed Bias should need no introduction at all. After a slew of seminal releases on his own Sidewinder and Sidestepper imprints, he first hit the UK Charts in 2000 with Neighbourhood, now widely regarded as one of the all time classic UK Garage tracks. He is one of the pioneers of breakbeat garage but is always moving with – or ahead of – the times, and his recent productions still graces the playlists of Radio 1 DJs Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs, as well as into the record boxes of DJ / producers like Toddla T, Blame, Skream, Plastician, Oneman, Benga, Kode 9 and Marytn. Using his alter ego of Maddslinky, he has most recently been seen killing it with his recent album “Make A Change” featuring Omar, Skream and many more
