Over 20 blue vinyl plaques adorning shop windows of a London sidestreet recall the birthplace of the UK and global film industry from 1894-1911 when cinematic innovation, technology and trade centred on a tiny street off Charing Cross Rd. Now an annual film festival and campaign for a permanent plaque are highlighting this remarkable story. We spoke to Etan Ilfeld and Tim Bryars about the original mini-Hollywood and their plans to mark it permanently.
