THE MOD YEARS is a project I'm undertaking to get all my *OLD* music added to my SoundCloud account. I started learning to make computer music using trackers in the early 90's using an IBM 386PC using MS-DOS, and at the time most people who were bedroom producers produced MOD music, which started out on the Amiga and the like.
I used trackers from 1994 to around 2002, when I moved to a Windows DAW and this, combined with deciding to push myself as a DJ and get bookings, saw me change from "DJ Skywalker" to "Dave Skywalker".
Thanks to the release of Schism Tracker I'm now able to go back to my archived hard drives and get most of these tracks online. I'll also add links so if you want you can download the original MOD file where possible. I can't find anything I made pre-1996, but that might be for the best, haha! The tracks themselves aren't the best quality, but consider the sampling was done on an IBM386 using DOS, in most cases via an audio lead to a home stereo (or VHS player!!) and you'll get an idea of what life was like at the time.
UPHORIAK MUSIC was an email distribution list I ran, where I sent out MODs that I'd written under a slew of pseudonyms. "=D" produced Happy Hardcore, "Access Denied" produced Techno, "Aranjuez Lacrimoso" (where did I get these names?!) produced Trance, "The Huge Cube" produced House and Big Beat, "DJ Hypnotiza" produced Jungle, "Jay Dee" was Garage, "DJ Meaningless" was Breakcore, "DJ Psychotrope" was Gabber, "The Scream Team" was Speedcore, "SupaSutra" was Hard House, "The Erb" was Drum n Bass, and I kept "DJ Skywalker" for Hardcore Breaks / New Old-Skool. Uphoriak Music reached 90 releases before I decided to retire the distribution list and move to an online site (websites were now the norm) to upload my music.
This is UPH008, "Hit The Hardcore" by Access Denied. It was sent out to the list on 26th April 1998. You can download the MOD file from http://www.mediafire.com/?8mlh0gz69yw9q1e.
