Dataless Recordings, founded almost a decade ago by Mark Doggett has been synonymous with a simple phrase since its inception back in 2003 – ‘high quality output’. During this time the label has been responsible for a large quantity of high profile releases from artists such as Future Disciple, Sequence & Detune, Audiowarp, Vinylgroover, Sparky Dog to name but of few and of course, not forgetting Mark’s own now legendary alias - K90.
The label was originally set up purely as an outlet for Mark’s own productions but it soon became clear by the amount of demo’s pouring into Dataless HQ every week, that there was just too much great music out there, deserving of a home that needed to be heard.
Fast forward almost 10 years and the label’s original ethos is still very evident to this day, to not just release great music from talented artists, but to help and guide the development of that talent. Future Disciple, Ian O’Shea, SQ , AlexMo are just a few of the artists that have come through the label’s development programme in recent years with many going on to sustained careers as producers and performers in their own right, proof that the framework of guidance and advice really does work.
The foundation of this framework coupled with Mark’s rapport with the artists he handpicks for the label, his vast experience and understanding of the music industry was the driving force behind his decision to expand the label’s base of operations in 2008 with the launch of a management and bookings arm to fit into the Dataless brand. It’s no secret that producers just want to produce and performers want to perform so this dedicated, tailored service gives them the opportunity to do just that, safe in the knowledge that as well as their development continually being driven forward, the mundane yet crucial part of being a recording artist is being taken care of.
So when you think of what Dataless is, what it’s releases stand for, you can forget about convention, labels, pigeon holes and generalisations because you’ll be here all day trying to work it out. The only thing you need to know when you see the distinctive Dataless brand, you can assure yourself that it will be something of quality that moves you and makes you want to move.
