artist: Roger Gerressen
title: Inked Jester
cat nr.: WLTD017
format: 12” vinyl (limited to 300 copies!!) and digital
release date: 2nd of april
file under: Freestyle Techno & Electronica
tracks: A1: Inked Jester
A2: Somebody Should Have Told you
B1: Inked Jester (Echologist Dub)
Roger Gerressen returns with a solo EP on Wolfskuil Ltd after his massive hit ‘No School Like The Old School’ from 2009. The talented producer from Nijmegen proves himself yet again at the forefront of spaced out and hypnotic electronic dance music. And the king of all that’s dub, Brendon Moeller, delivers a mental rework under his Echologist monniker.
Roger’s is a huge admirer of dub and smoked out hiphop, wich becomes more apparent then ever on this release. The ultraslow ‘Inked Jester’ revolves around effects and soundscapes. The tempo would suggest a relaxing and laidback feel, but that’s deceiving. The atmosphere is dark and dirty, almost irie and unsettling at times. ‘Somebody Should Have Told You’ can best be decribed as stoner hiphop gone techno. A Tribe Called Quest and cohorts are just around the corner, nodding and bumping to this techno-id ode to their legacy.
The master of effects and everything dubby in techno, Brendon Moeller, made an hypnotic rework of ‘Inked Jester’ under his Echologist pseudonyme. Soundscapes & design and Brendon’s amazing production skills are as we Dutchies call it ‘the cherry on the pie’.
