Thank you to those who have taken time to listen! This song was requested by the folks at GW-EN.com for the "End of an Era" party they held August 18th, 2012 in Guild Wars. The Lyrics were written thanks to the stories shared with me by my friends on twitter and gw-en.com over the span of a week. All the voices are me (as always)!
Lyrics:
Seven long years ago
We can still remember when we first stepped in to Guild Wars one
Celestial Sigils dropped by chance, Guild Halls were hard to finance
To get one, you'd farming for a while
Hero's Ascent made us quiver, with every defeat we'd be delivered
Ecto were hard to gather, when where they dropped required favor
Or when one May monks went on strike, the disrespect they didn't like
Something sparked within us all, Guild Wars, we're glad we tried.
My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
Did you skate Marhan Grotto ice? Or keep a toon in preseering cause it was nice?
Or walk the Great Northern Wall?
Now, Riven Earth had quite the sights, it's floating bridge was a great delight and
Cherry Blossom Trees grew in Shing Jea~
You've, Elona with it's deserts vast, and Shiverpeak snow couldn't be outclassed
Cantha could look so green, man, those Krytan beaches were clean
There so many places that we could go, it's constant beauty really made us 'whoa' but
We knew we'd be moving on, the day of Guild Wars 2
Join us singin' - My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
Now, Seven years it's been going strong, and so many changes have come and gone, and
some we'd hate and some we'd love
The Minion Factories were really mean, their large numbers made quite the scene
Shadow Form made ecto prices lean
Oh, 55 Monk was really strong till the mob's AI had them running round
Spiritway was absurd, EoE bombing occurred
Though Flavors of the Month have changed, a good new build could be arranged, but...
we'll bid farewell to this age, once Guild Wars 2 is live.
We'll be singing, My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
Ghostly Hero teaches how to Ascend, and in PvP, you've to defend him
He swaps axe to bow real fast
and Cynn and Mhenlo did romance
Lieutenant Thackeray woo'd a bitter lass, that Hinata had some really fancy pants
And, Razah from the Mists was made, while Shiro, out of fear betrayed
Joko could be so crass, Oh, the Vabbi he harassed.
For Vekk you really felt quite bad, an explosion went and killed his dad
and Gwen killed Charr with great delight - within Guild Wars one.
Now we're singing, My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
Oh, Lion's Arch was our gatherin' place, though Kamadan could oft replace
with trade chat filled with tons of spam
And, trade reads, "Want to Buy" or "A-S-L"! And maybe a random Z-Key yell, or
people selling runs to different zones
But then Lion's Arch would really bounce, once Gaile Gray's presence was announced
Nothing could quite compare, to her Kongo Lines out there!
And, as events came through the year, an Anet member might appear, and we
Gathered while the date grew near, the date for Guild Wars 2
We'd gather singing, My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
One last thing we can't forget, the real people we all have met
Our community is really strong
Guild, Alliance or solo play, we'd meet new people every day,
And our friend lists could fill up really fast
In PvP, we work side by side, In Roleplaying, we RP'd with pride
In PvE we gathered, our missions all to conquer
And, Guild Wars one will still be here, for some won't leave what they hold dear,
when most of us say goodbye, and Guild Wars 2 we go
My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
Memories of this game never die
My My, Guild Wars one was so fly
No subscription, fully instanced, it was rare for its time
Though Guild Wars 2 may have me saying goodbye, I'll say
Memories of this game never die
